Why Networking has the potential to explode your business.
- Networking online involves interacting with other people who may be able to connect you with a lead in your target market (that you wouldn’t normally contact on your own)
A great benefit to Networking online otherwise known as “enetworking” takes a lot of the stress off of talking about yourself – in this case of enetworking is not all about who you know but who knows you.
For example, if you frequent targeted forums, chat rooms and networking groups, people will get to know you by virtually seeing you everywhere.
How to network:
- research your market; LISTEN first and talk later…
- join and watch the conversations to get a feel of what topics are being discussed.
- read the terms and conditions, i.e., rules and become familiar with them so you don’t go against the group policy.
- if you’re new to networking and your are unfamiliar with the style of “group” or forum software, politely ask questions on how to post, etc.
- introduce yourself without selling your products or services, tell people who you are, what you do and why (once you see a couple of responses to your introduction you’ll have a better feel of the “tone” of the group) believe me, no one is interested in hearing you mention that you have the best product or service on the face of the earth)
- participate in discussions that interest you… ask questions and reply to questions that you have a decent amount of knowledge about – say something useful and original.
- always be polite and courteous… don’t flame or give your political or self created philosophy.
- be consistent with membership; i.e., you don’t have to stay there 24/7 however, at least visit once or twice a week
- if someone appears to be interested in what you do, take the discussion “off” the group by privately emailing one another
A few of the discussion forums I recommend (in no particular order):
- The “How To” Marketing Forum
- Self Starters Weekly Tips Forum www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/forum/
- Christian Work at Home Moms Message Boards www.cwahm.com/messageboard/
- InternetBasedMoms Forum www.internetbasedmoms.com/bb/
Increasing your database:
Consistent networking can put you in touch with a lot of people but it takes commitment and persistence. I like the way Peter Waddle describes networking; he says, “the key to success is netWORK, for that is the only way to increase the number of people who know and want to help you.”
Blessings for continued success!

Networking online and offline is an important part of any marketing strategy for small business owners. Many of my client relationships and joint venture partnerships are a direct result of effective networking. I had the extreme pleasure and honor of meeting Regina Baker two years ago and I have had the privilege of following her lead and learning how to network effectively and with purpose.
