Is God a Salesman? February 6th, 2008

I was recently contacted to review a book that targets the Christian business owner.  While the book is not specifically written just for Christians, it’s for anyone who desires to grab that missing ingredient in marketing their business with the right intent ~ and not only looking for the next sell, so to speak.

God Is a SalesmanAuthor, Mark Stevens and I chatted over the phone on a couple of occassions about the reasons he wrote, God Is a Salesman: Learn from the Master.

It was amazing to actually listen to a Man who by worldly standards is already successful with money, the house, cars, toys, luxury vacations and shopping sprees.

Mark Stevens is a best selling author, CEO of MSCO, a results-driven management and marketing firm, and a popular media commentator on a host of business matters including marketing, branding, management and sales. Mr. Stevens is known for delivering business insights with blunt truths and unconventional wisdom.

Simply put, Mark advocates transforming (renewing of the mind) the current culture of sales from transactional and superficial to one based on faith, trust and relationships. In God Is a Salesman, Mark delivers a life and career altering guide for anyone who sells anything-and everyone sells something.

Mark StevensSo what impressed me about Mark Stevens?  He has a sincere heart, desire and bursting passion to empower people who have a mustard seed of faith, the real truth about business.  Mark teaches that it’s really not about the sell, it’s about the relationships we create along the way which transforms into a prosperous business.

So many of us jump online looking for the easy way to make money.  We make it all about ourselves and our own personal gain and not in the least bit concerned about the needs of others.  The bible tells us to beware of greed: for a person’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things which he owns, “for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

As you’ve heard me say over and over again…

“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care!”

If we’re only interested in selling something, can you imagine that this is what you have to do everyday?  Convince someone to buy what you have?  Think about it for a moment, what if you took the time to “listen” to the needs of an individual and then provide them with a solution without the fear of not making a “sale?”  That one act of kindness and true concern is what leads to trust.

Jesus was the perfect example when it comes to selling.  He was the greatest networker of all times!  He knew His purpose, His calling and without fail, He pursued it according to instruction.  People rediculed His seminars, conferences and lectures, yet He stood in the midst of it all with a spirit of excellence — because it wasn’t about Him!  God said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Can you imagine what redicule Mark probably received when he wrote God is a Salesman?  But that doesn’t bother him.  As he sat under his favorite tree and God revealed His vision – Mark heard it and delivered.

Just a few of the chapters in the book cover:

  1. God Shares His Vision
  2. People Buy Trust Before They Buy Products
  3. God Makes Guarantees
  4. It’s Not the Product That Sells, It’s the Provider
  5. God Makes Us an Offer We Can’t Refuse
  6. God Deals in Exclusives
  7. God Never Holds a Sale

One thing we can learn for sure is that “pride goeth before destruction and haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18 (cross references: Prov 11:2; Prov 18:12; Jeremiah 49:16 and Obadiah 1:3)

I encourage all of us to desire to be like the best Salesman of all times – Jesus Christ.

“God reaches millions of people globally and maintains a loyal client base.”
Mark Stevens www.GodIsASalesman.com

Blessings!

Wow! I’ve got to get this book!

I truly believe in helping others through my business. When I went looking for a home based business, I wanted to find something where I could help others to make a difference in their lives. I think that’s what life is all about. God has put us all here for a purpose. I know my purpose is to help bring other working moms home to be with their families!

Being a VA has opened the doors for me to help others…whether I make the sale or not because my Provider has everything under His control and therefore, I can rest in this assurance. I enjoy helping others and will continue to do so, after all, that’s all that matters in the end. I think you do a great job every week, so stay encouraged…you’re reaching us :)
